During the recording of Guns 'n' Roses 'Appetite for Destruction' album, Slash used a custom-made Les Paul (made by the late Chris Derrig) equipped with two Zebra Alnico Pro II humbuckers (APH-1s) - straight into a Marshall stack. The neck pickup was a standard Zebra pickup but the bridge was a reverse Zebra. Though he has dozens of amazing guitars, since 1986 Slash has used pretty much one very special Les Paul ® for all recording. The Alnico II Pro Slash was designed to give Slash's other Les Paul guitars-what he calls his "live guitars"-the exact tone of this legendary instrument.




Warm, moderate output humbucker. Recommended for jazz, blues, and classic rock.


Like the standard APH-1 Alnico II Pro, this pickup uses an Alnico 2 magnet. However, the Slash model is wound with just enough boosted output to push a stock Les Paul toward the sweet sustain and rude crunch that characterizes Slash's sound as heard on hundreds of tracks. In addition, it comes with some of the same appointments found on the Seymour Duncan pickups in Slash's '86 recording axe, including single-conductor cable, long-legged bottom plate, and wooden spacer. For the true fan, or the player who wants to capture Slash's recorded tone, this pickup is a critical part of the tone chain. This is same pickup found in the newest Gibson® Slash model Les Paul.


The Slash aficionado will use a pair of these pickups to capture that unmistakable tone. This pickup matches well with the SFX-11 Twin Tube Blue all-tube overdrive-distortion stompbox for singing leads and authoritative chording.


While designed for use in a Les Paul, this pickup works well in any well-balanced humbucker-equipped guitar. Also works great with hollow and semi-hollow body guitars.


Available in black, zebra, or reverse zebra. The infamous Slash recording guitar has a reverse zebra pickup in the bridge position and a zebra pickup in the neck position. This pickup is available individuallyor in the zebra/reverse zebra set.

Although Eric Johnson is best known as a Strat player, he has always played humbucker-equipped guitars as well. After getting a new 1959 Les Paul re-issue, Eric asked DiMarzio if it could be made to sound like an old Gretsch Country Gentleman guitar, and they said, "No problem!" The pickups they designed are exact replacements for standard, full size humbuckers. They are bright with great presence without sounding thin. When Eric tried them, he said they were almost as clear-sounding as Strat pickups, and he was surprised at how well they sounded with heavy distortion, because no matter how overdriven the sound, it did not become muddy. Recommended for: All positions, solid, semi-solid and hollow-body electric guitars

If you look at the DC Resistance specs for these pickups, you will see they're very similar to PAF®-style models. However, their performance is very different in two important areas. They have less power and much more treble response than "vintage" humbuckers. In fact, treble response is comparable to that of typical single-coils, but since bass response is still very solid, the EJ Custom™ isn't thin-sounding. It's outstanding for chords and fingerpicking, and has exceptional definition for soloing, even with extreme amounts of distortion.

If you like the look of double cream coils - DiMarzio is the only manufacturer - however, it is a special order from the factory - as are Zebra coils - and delivery is 4-6 weeks. If you are replacing the bridge pickup on a Gibson style guitar equipped with a Tunomatic bridge (52.4mm string spread) order either the F spaced pickup (51mm pole spacing) or standard (48mm pole spacing ). For the neck position order the standard pickup. For Fender style guitars (54mm string spread) order the 'F' spacing pickup.

Fender fit Vintage Noiseless pickups to their Francis Rossi model so if you want the authentic Francis Rossi sound these are the pickups that you need. Note that Francis's Tele has been heavily modified to accept Strat pickups.
