Vintage Telecaster Pickups
The archetypal Tele sound is the clean, twangy one heard on so many Country & Western records and made popular by guitarists like Steve Cropper and Albert Lee. However, the edgey, screaming solo on Stairway to Heaven was reputedly played on a Tele by Jimmy Page, rather than a Les Paul as one would expect. These versatile instruments can cover many bases and our pickups will let you push the envelope further.
The early bridge pickups used c9,200 turns of 42 SWG wire wrapped around 6 Alnico V rod magnets, and had a DC resistance of 7.5 k Ohms. The early neck pickups used c8,000 turns of 43 SWG wire wrapped around 6 Alnico V rod magnets and had a DC resistance of 7.7k Ohms.
From its launch in 1952 until 1983 the Tele bridge pickup had a copper-plated tin back plate. Poles were staggered from 1955 until 1981 when flat poles reappeared.

Full Sized Humbuckers for Tele
Fender have produced two Tele models with full sized humbuckers over the life of the guitar, - the Custom with 1 Fender 'widerange' humbucker in the neck position and the DeLuxe with 2 Fender 'widerange' humbucking pickups. Seth Lover left Gibson in the late 60s and was recruited by Fender who asked him to design their humbuckers. These unique pickups had CuNiFe rod magnets (3 adjustable per coil) in each coil. The pickup had a nickel silver cover like the Gibson humbucker. No-one makes a direct replaceent and not even the Fender reissues are made the same way. However, Rio Grande makes a couple of models in its range to physically fit the Tele Custom and DeLuxe.
Rio Grande also makes a couple of full sized humbuckers mounted in a specially modified Tele bridge but note that the body of the guitar would have to be routed to accomodate the larger pickup.
