It's not difficult to make a vintage single-coil pickup that's clean and bright, but not so easy if you also want the high strings to sound sweet above the 12th fret. The True Velvet™ Neck Model was designed to make this happen by tuning the coil to a frequency range that’s bright but not thin. DiMarzio combines this with a magnet stagger specifically designed to enhance string balance, which produces great clarity, even with full chords. The True Velvet™ Neck Model comes standard with hand-ground magnets and vintage cloth covered wire.

Recommended for neck and all positions

The True Velvet™ is a further development of DiMarzio's Blue Velvet™ line. DiMarzio has retuned the basic frequency response to hone in on the strongest aspects of vintage single-coil tone. The best vintage single-coils emphasized a "sweet spot" where the sound is bright but not piercing. The True Velvet™ is tuned to this spot, making it equally effective for many playing styles, from the clarity of country music to the grit of Texas blues.

DiMarzio has combined the best qualities of the DiMarzio DP404 Virtual Vintage Solo™ and DiMarzio DP414 Virtual Vintage Solo Pro™ – high output and a full, warm sound – and pushed these qualities even further. Treble response is smoother, the lows are tighter, and there is more pick attack. Play hard, and the sound jumps out of the amp. Play softer, and the sound becomes cleaner and quieter. And of course, there’s no hum.

Bridge

The Virtual Vintage Solo™ and Solo Pro™ both have specific qualities Dimarzio likes a lot, but they felt the sound could be even bigger. Making the highs both fatter and louder without any loss of definition on the lows creates a bridge pickup that can sound both warm and intense, and the Virtual Solo™ performs equally well with clean and heavily overdriven amps.

The Monterey Pop Festival of 1967 was a watershed event in American music. When it was over, the world had heard and felt the sound of a Strat® in the hands of a master. Single-coils in 1967 were bright and very clean. And of course, they hummed. DiMarzio have captured the classic bright and clean sound but totally eliminated the hum with their patented Area™ technology. They've also reduced magnet pull by 40% for improved sustain and clarity. The Area '67™ has the chime of '60s pickups, and the 2 and 4 positions are light, bright and quack-happy.

All positions, especially neck and middle

Strat® pickups in the late 1960s used full-strength Alnico 5 magnets. The patented magnetic field of the Area™ models is more efficient and focused than it is on "true" single-coils, which allows us to use Alnico 2 instead. There's much less magnet pull, but no loss of output. This is a major advantage in the neck and middle positions, where sustain and intonation can both suffer if the strings are exposed to strong magnetic fields. In the bridge position, the patented technology of the Area '67™ produces a sound that's very bright but not brittle.

DiMarzio has been working on a serious vintage single-coil design with no hum for eight years. DiMarzio's goal has always been to capture the best qualities of pickups heard from the 1950s and early 1960s. They played several pickups from the early 1960s that had a unique tonality: they were steely, yet woody sounding. Naturally they wanted to nail this sound and they wanted to do it with no hum and less magnet pull.

Wiring: 4 Conductor
Magnet: Alnico 2
Output: 142 mv
DC Resistance: 6.43k
It's good in all three positions and it's a perfect bridge pickup with a pair of Area '58s if you want to go all the way from Nashville to Texas in one guitar.

Over the last 10 years we’ve gotten literally hundreds of requests from guitarists asking for the Texas blues sound. This sound is centered on single-coils from the early 1960’s, but it’s also based on heavy strings and strong hands. We can’t change your strings or your hands, but the Area ?61™ captures the tonal bedrock this sound is based on. Like the Area ’58™, the Area ’61™ really responds to different pick attacks: played hard, it sounds louder and tougher than you’d expect from a vintage pickup, but it cleans up immediately by picking softer or rolling down the volume control. And like the Area ’58™, its ability to cancel hum is superior to full-size humbuckers.

DC Resistance is 6.46 KOhms

There are two major differences between a great vintage Strat pickup and an average one: treble response and dynamics. A great pickup is clear and bright , but not thin sounding. And a great one makes the sound jump out of the amp when you pick hard and drop away when you play softly, and the tone varies when the string is picked at different spots. The best pickup that DiMarzio heard that was like that was from 1958 and that is what inspired the Area '58, with two major differences. DiMarzio's pickup has less magnet pull, and virtually no hum.

Wiring: 4 Conductor
Magnet: Alnico 2
Output: 125 mv
DC Resistance: 6.15k

The Area ’58™ has obvious similarities to the Virtual Vintage® 2.1 it replaces, but there are several non-visible performance factors that have changed. Dynamic range and string definition are greatly increased, leading to improvements in both clean chord-playing and overdriven soloing. The ’58™ is very sensitive to small height adjustment differences: close to the strings produces a fatter, slightly compressed blues tone and further away yields crystal clean sounds. The final improvement is in noise reduction. All of the Virtual Vintage® pickups have better hum cancellation than full-size humbuckers. Area '58™ and Area '61™ are even quieter.

Classic, all-round stacked coils. Used as the middle pickup in the Ibanez Steve Vai JEM guitar. The HS-2™ has history behind it. The HS™ series were the first humbucking Strat® replacement pickups we made in the early 1980s. Since then, the HS-2™ has become popular for two distinct qualities: in humbucking mode, it’s got a solid, natural sound that’s cleaner and brighter than a conventional humbucker, while single-coil mode creates one of the best vintage tones around. Because of its patented design, single-coil mode is not as noisy as a standard single-coil pickup. Taken together with the dead-quiet humbucking mode, this is an excellent pickup to use with rack systems and high-gain amps.

In the classic Strat configuration, the HS-2™ works in all 3 positions. It can also be part of a mixed set with the HS-3™ and YJM™ models. The HS-2™ also works in H-S-H combinations, recommended with PAF Pro®, Fred®, Air Classic™ and Humbucker From Hell® in neck and bridge positions.

Dual blade - hum cancelling vintage Strat sound. If you’re a serious traditional Strat® player, you probably won’t want to know about pickups with side - by - side coils. But if you’re the player who’s up for something more modern with no 60-cycle hum, string drop-outs or sustain-killing magnet pull, we designed The Cruiser® for you. Harmonic overtones are right where you expect them to be from a ?true? single-coil, and the mid-range is open and vocal-sounding. It’s hotter than the traditional single-coil, and the bass strings have a bit more chunk; this is an excellent pickup to combine with medium-output humbuckers, and it maintains its tonal identity with high-gain amps and multiple effects.

Wiring: 4 Conductor
Magnet: Ceramic
Output: 143 mv
DC Resistance: 5.75k
The obvious question about the Cruiser™ is "How real is the sound?" Our feeling is that the unwound strings (E, B and G) are very close, and the wound strings (D, A and low E) are a little fatter-sounding than a true single-coil. This is really effective for getting big-sounding chords, because high and low strings sound more spread out from each other. Having a total magnet pull that's about 40% less than standard single-coils also means the Cruiser™ can be adjusted much closer to the strings for more power than stock pickups can achieve.

Seymour Duncan Antiquity Texas hot™ for strat® Seymour Duncan Antiquity Texas hot™ for strat®

For years now Seymour has been custom-making these pickups for his friends and special artist friends.

Each Texas Hot™ is carefully assembled and hand-wound like the traditional classics.
